Dr. Slate was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions I had about his bestselling book Beyond Reincarnation.

Q. When writing Beyond Reincarnation, what did you hope to impart to readers?

A. Enlightenment and empowerment were my two major objectives in writing this book. I'm convinced that the greater our understanding of our past, the more empowered we become in the present.

Q. How can learning about our past lives help us in our present lives?

A. Learning about our past lives expands our awareness of our existence as soul beings. Past-life enlightenment accelerates our present-life growth and empowers us to reach our highest levels of development as evolving souls. Our development, of course, can be interrupted by negative baggage, to include that of past-life origin. Past-life enlightenment can liberate us from past-life baggage and equip us with more effective problem-solving and coping skills. Given knowledge of the past we become empowered in the present. We discover that our destiny as souls is endless growth and greatness.

Q. What is the difference between a past life reading, a regression done by a hypnotherapist, and the self hypnosis techniques you write about in Beyond Reincarnation? Which do you feel is more beneficial?

A. Discovering for yourself your past-life experiences through self-hypnosis adds relevance and accuracy to the experience. To be provided information about your past lives by others, whether a hypnotist or past-life reader, has limited value and questionable validity. You know yourself best, and your best therapist, healer, and teacher exists within your higher self. Through self hypnosis, you have access to your past-life experiences, all of which are stored within yourself. Beyond that, you can activate your inner therapist who can guide the past-life retrieval process to reveal those experiences that are relevant for you at the moment. Through the past-life strategies detailed in this book, you can activate the powers and access the knowledge existing within. Furthermore, you will find ways of using them to enrich and empower your life. No one else can do that for you. Why do you feel souls are reincarnated? Each lifetime offers new opportunities to gain new experiences and develop our highest potentials. On a broader scale, we find ways of contributing to the well-being of others and making the world a better place. At another level, each lifetime offers opportunities to resolve any negative residual effects of past lifetimes and to gain new experiences which will remain forever with us in afterlife as important growth resources. Taken together, the experiences of many lifetimes broadens our perspectives while expanding our understanding of ourselves and others.

Q. Would you share one of your own memories of a past life?

A. One of my most intense past-life memories is that of being buried alive. Through self-hypnosis using the EM/RC strategy, I regressed to a past lifetime in the mid-1900's when as a young man I suffered a head injury by being thrown from my horse. Although consciously aware of my surroundings but unable to speak or move, I was thought to be dead and was buried alive. Only as the burial was nearing completion was I able to speak or move, but it was too late. I immediately exited the trance state knowing that my life-long fear of enclosed places had been instantly extinguished through knowledge of its origin. Knowledge is power, and past-life knowledge is power in its finest form.

Q. Are there any other thoughts you would like potential readers of Beyond Reincarnation to know?
A. Yes, four important points come to mind:
1. Stay focused and balanced in your search for past-life enlightenment.
2. Keep in mind that the best source of knowledge is within yourself.
3. Get to know your spirit guides. They will give you support and guidance as you probe your past-life experiences.
4. Use the knowledge of your past to achieve your present-life goals and enrich the quality of your life.

Reincarnation...on Oprah? by Debra Glass

I am very pleased with the topics Oprah Winfrey has been choosing to discuss on her show. I have always admired Oprah and recently, she has taken great strides toward bringing metaphysical topics into the mainstream.

Her guest, psychotherapist, Brian L. Weiss, MD, http://www.brianweiss.com/ spoke about spontaneous past life regression during his traditional hypnotherapy sessions and how, through learning about past life lessons, we can correct present life phobias, problems, etc.

Reincarnation is the belief the consciousness survives the death of the physical body and returns to be reborn in a new body.

Most Indian religious doctrines support the belief of reincarnation. The Ancient Greeks, some African religions, Buddhism, Kabbalah, Spiritualists, and Gnostics also espouse the idea of reincarnation.

Notable people who believe in reincarnation are: Edgar Cayce, Henry Ford, author Jane Roberts, Sylvia Browne, Mahatma Gandhi, George Harrison, Carl Jung, and George Patton.

Psychologist and author, Joe H. Slate, in his book Beyond Reincarnation, writes, "Past-life knowledge can offer direction and balance, explain fears and compulsions, build self worth, and promote acceptance of others."

Beyond Reincarnation is a fascinating book in which readers can learn how to probe past lives and preexistence through self hypnosis, astral travel to new spiritual dimensions, and communication with spirits through table tipping.

Reincarnation is an interesting topic and learning about our past lives can help heal us in the present. I applaud Oprah for including it on her show.

Manifesting A Creative Life by Debra Glass

Way before The Secret I practiced saying affirmations daily. "I am successful. All my needs are met." Manifesting people, situations, and things in my life has become routine for me. (Routine in a good way!) My spirit guides always remind me to "open my mind to receive." I had no idea what this meant until I was in a bookstore in Franklin, Tennessee one day and noticed a book entitled, Open Your Mind To Receive by Catherine Ponder. When I picked it up, I discovered it was all about manifesting!

It's amazing what the Universe will do when you just ask!

I knew how to visualize what I wanted in my life. In fact, when I begin a book, I first make a cover with the title and my name on it so I can see what the finished product will look like. But I never knew how to magnetize myself in order to draw the things I wanted to me. I never knew how to receive.

Ponder's book taught me I am worthy of the things I want. It also taught me to be careful what I wished for - to think things through and to draw to me the people and situations that were best for my personal growth.

I learned to feel the emotions I would have if I received a particular thing. With my first romance novel sale, I sat and imagined holding the finished book in my hand. I imagined telling my family and friends I had sold a book. I felt the joy I knew I would know when I sold - and it happened!

Practice manifesting in your life. Draw the right things to you and ask that things or people who are not there for your ultimate personal growth be removed from your life.

The Universe hears and is ready to grant our every wish!

The Secret to Happiness by Debra Glass

Nothing will bring more into your life than being grateful for what you already have.

Right now, I am at a place in my life where everything I touch seems to turn to gold. My relationship with my husband is amazing. My children are healthy, beautiful, and smart. I have a strong faith in the Creator and the Universe and I am filled with a great sense of satisfaction in my writing career. Everything is right with the world. All my needs are met and I feel successful in every aspect of my life.

I have everything to be grateful for, right?

My life hasn't always been so perfect, however. And I've found that I'm grateful for those harder aspects of my life as well.

Ten years ago, I was not in touch with my intuition. I acted out of desperation and married an addict my whole being screamed at me to run from. I ignored all the signs but, believe me, they were there. You might wonder why a woman who seems to have it all together would go against all reason to do something so utterly stupid. One word. Fear.

The marriage was over as soon as we returned home from the honeymoon but I continued to plod along - out of fear. I didn't know how to unravel what I'd started and begin again.

Although the addict stopped drinking, he never got truly sober. His addiction transferred to money, landscaping, work, gardening, and eventually to trying to destroy my spirit in every way possible.

In the meantime, we'd had a child and had bought a business which made it even more difficult for me to leave him.

I was at the lowest point in my life when my intuition blossomed. I discovered I had mediumistic abilities and had a spirit guide who loved me unconditionally and supported my plan to leave the addict.

Had circumstances not forced me to turn inward, I doubt I would have ever realized what a gift the Universe has give me in my mediumistic and psychic abilities.

And when my guide pointed out to me that the Universe couldn't give me what I wanted unless I knew what I wanted and released all negativity in my life, my eyes were opened to a whole new world.

At once, my life changed. I focused on the type of person I wanted in my life as a partner. I met him two years ago, exactly.

When I let go of career moves that no longer worked me and focused on my lifelong dream of becoming novelist, that dream came true for me as well.

I realize now the addict's presence in my life was a learning experience for me. Although he hurt me, I made tremendous strides in my personal growth because of him. I often joke that on the Other Side, he's probably my best friend.

I see now why and how I can be grateful for trying times in my life because I would most certainly re-live those horrible years to know the perfection I have now.

Adopt an attitude of gratitude and it will change you. Know that situations that baffle you now will become clear to you later and thank the Universe for the lessons and blessings with which you've been graced.

Dowsing by Debra Glass

Dowsing, sometimes referred to as water witching, is the practice of locating underground water, buried metals, or other objects by employing a Y shaped twig or L shaped rod. Although dowsing is widely practiced, very few authors employ the use of it in writing paranormal characters. If you are an author looking for a fresh idea for your paranormal characters, consider dowsing!

The most common dowsing tool is a Y shaped branch from a tree. Some dowsers employ the use of branches from particular trees and cut them just prior to use.

Other dowsers divine with a pair of L shaped metal rods and believe brass yields the best results.

The use of a pendulum is also a form of dowsing, especially when dowsing a map or dowsing for medical diagnosis. The dowser uses a crystal suspended from a chain or string and holds it over the object to be dowsed. Answers are given by the pendulum swinging one way for yes answers and another way for no answers.

A very good friend of mine, Alvin Jackson of Capshaw, Alabama, is an excellent dowser who has dowsed maps for buried or hidden items, oil, mineral deposits, water, etc.

The pendulum can also be used as a method of spirit communication.

Dowsing Exercise Using Dowsing Rods—

1. Either purchase rods from a metaphysical shop or make a pair using coat hangers and pliers to cut and bend the ends.
2. Center yourself. Connect to the Universe.
3. Hold the rods and imagine energy coming from the Universe into you, through your hands and into the rods.
4. Ask the rods to cross.
5. Ask the rods to open.
6. When you get the feel of this, try asking the rods to point you in the direction of something like your car keys. (This technique works great for finding lost items, by the way!)
7. Now, invite your spirit guide to answer questions for you by crossing the rods for “yes” answers and opening the rods for “no” answers.
8. When you are through, thank your guide.
